Finally some Zhu Ran love. He rocked and he's definitely one of my favorite Wu officers, and in the top of my overall favorites.

I have far too many favorites to just narrow it down to one, though.

Historical/Novel - Taishi Ci. He managed to serve several lords but retain his honor, demonstrated his brilliance and prowess on more than one occassion. I'd like to think his death alone had a great impact on how things played out during the era.

I'm a fan of Cao Cao, mostly. I haven't read any of the historical accounts, nor have I finished the novel (mostly because I got the one with the bad translations using the Wade-Giles names. Liu Pei for instance), but from what I've seen of the man, I like. Other than that I can't really name any other sources. I'm not overly fond of Shu any longer because they are the infallible paladins. And besides, didn't Liu Bei eat a person or something?

As far as Wu is concerned, I'd probably have to go with Zhou Yu, but again this is (sadly) drawing mostly from RTK games.

I tend to like people more based on their portraits in earlier RTK games. But, well, let us see... I could make a top 5 (in no particular order), based on a multiplicity of things. Hmmm, I would say...

Cao Cao - so ridiculously amazing historically
Gao Shun - loyal to Lu Bu even though he was critical of him, and performed well in the battles with Cao Cao, beating both Liu Bei and Xiahou Dun back. Too bad Cao Cao killed him.
Liu Bei - betrayed everybody he came across it seems, yet was still well-liked and managed to survive so much longer than anyone should have expected.
Zang Ba - similar to Liu Bei in history so far as he was able to betray multiple people and yet survive; was never a big dog, but performed very well nonetheless.
Shen Pei - of the quarreling Yuan Shao advisers, he is my favorite. Plus, a good defensive general.

Historical: hate to jump on the bandwagon but I have to go with Cao Cao here.

Novel: Yuan Shao for some reason. A great hero becomes a senile fool. This might sound odd, but he's almost a tragic figure in my eyes.

I dont know much about the history of this era but I really loved Sun Jian in the novel. The man was a beast. My favorite was his role in the yellow turban rebellion when he cut down 20 men then threw the man off the horse rushing through cutting down all enemies. Great fighter!

Historical: Cao Cao.
What else to say? He has the right idea about power and rule.

Novel: Zhang Liao.
His defense of Hefei when he's insanely outnumbered? Common sense would have told any warrior to retreat. Zhang Liao was not just 'any warrior'. Could see past numerical odds and figure out an effective action. That, friends, is what it's all about ^^.

I would have to say Historically it would be Lu Kang or Xu Sheng.

Novel wise though I would give it hands down to Zhang Liao.

Novel: Guan Yu (influenced entire battles without any tactics and pure brute :D)
